Founded in 1869, the first united methodist church was the very first protestant church that existed in San Diego. The church is located in mission valley, California. The church has a history of over 150 years and grew in strength and numbers as the city of California grew. The original members of the church worshipped in a smaller gothic revival church in the 1800s but with the growth in numbers, the church shifted to its now existing location in downtown San Diego. The existing First United Methodist Church has a contemporary Spanish style of architecture.
