The Castle of St Nicholas is a famous destination to admire the sunset of Santorini. Located on the island's northwest coast, the remains of the 15th-century castle offer the best panoramic views of the island and a perfect spot for clicking picturesque images of Santorini.
The castle dates back to the late 15th century. It was used as an observation point to protect the island and keep a watch out at sea and was well fortified to protect the people. Now, only the base remains, which offers magnificent views of the caldera, volcanic islands and the Aegean sea. It gets crowded in the peak seasons of summer, i.e, June to August, so going early to grab the best spot is advisable.
