Kungri Monastery, Spiti Valley Overview
Kungri Monastery, in the Pin Valley around 10 km from Attargo and 3 km from Gulling, is the second oldest monastery in Spiti Valley and the only one following Nyingmapa Buddhism, the oldest order of Tibetan Buddhism. The Kungri Gompa is frequently visited by pilgrims, tourists, and Buddhist scholars.
The Kungri Monastery has gorgeous silk paintings of Buddhist deities adorning the inner walls. During June-July, you can witness the performance of the Devil Dance or Chham in the monastery.
