Historical Museum of the City , Strasbourg Overview

The Historical Museum of the City of Strasbourg offers an immersive journey through nine centuries of the city's rich history. The museum's collection features approximately 1,700 artifacts, including paintings, graphic arts, military weapons, uniforms, and everyday objects. The museum's engaging layout provides a comprehensive understanding of the city's development from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Established in 1920, the museum is housed in the former slaughterhouse (Grande Boucherie), a Renaissance building constructed between 1586 and 1588. A notable highlight is the 1727 relief map (plan-relief) of Strasbourg, which meticulously reproduces the city and its surroundings at a 1:600 scale. Visitors can explore the political, economic, social, and cultural evolution of Strasbourg through interactive displays and digital installations.
