If you're in Udaipur, you should try Hathi Pol Bazaar, Bada Bazaar, or the Chetak circle. Bada Bazaar is good for camel leather items (footwear, bags) and for fabrics, tie and die and bandhini. Hathi (Read More) Pol and Chetak Circle are great for artwork and handicrafts. You can also try the Lake Palace Road, which specializes in textiles.

2-3 days are enough. Udaipur is a lovely place and the weather right now is just glorious. Try the Lotus cafe and Mayur Rooftop for affordable food. Natraj Hotel Dining Hall for authentic Rajasthani (Read More)food, which is pretty cheap. Autos are available for taking you around the city, which are budget friendly.

Q. I'm based in Delhi and really wish to take a break all by myself. How is Udaipur in that way?

Rajat Jain

For a solo travel break, Udaipur is perfect in a lot of ways. Firstly, the existence of a Zostel makes it easy for a backpack traveler as it is cheap, and you also get to meet a lot of fellow travell (Read More)ers. Secondly, Udaipur is a very friendly city. So you can chat to the locals, gorge on some amazing local food, and spend a lot of your time by the Pichola Lake reading a good book or listening to some music.

Udaipur, the City of Lakes, needs to be visited for its local shops, souvenir hunting, majestic architecture and serene lakes. The city is divided on the basis of three lakes ? Lake Pichhola, Fatehsa (Read More)gar Lake and Badi Lake, which gives it its epithet. The three lakes make up the major attractions alongside with the palaces. It is necessary to keep in mind that Udaipur, is a little expensive city such that entry tickers to palaces are also highly priced than Jaipur or other places; even boat tickets are on a higher scale but food is not that expensive at good restaurants. One can visit the major attractions in the city in a 2 days duration. As I stayed for 3 days, I absolutely had nothing to do on the third day. If well planned, one can definitely visit Mount Abu for a day as Udaipur is not that expansive to require more days. The best season to visit Udaipur is October to March. The Udaipur Palace is the biggest monument in the city. Apart from the main palace, there are three more palaces, each palace corresponding to a (Read More)season. The main palace has three divisions- the residence of the royal family, the Oberoi Uday villas and the museum. There are few cafeterias inside but a number of vendors are present outside the palace. There are two museums- one which displays the splendid history of the warriors and the other which has the weapons and armaments of the royal family. Having a guide is advisable.

Great place to visit. Lovely lake and city. Lots of lanes. Stay in the old city and enjoy the local food and shopping as well. The cafes are really nice. Avoid April and May as it can be really hot.

The Exquisite and Elegant Udaipur If you are fuelled by an incessant wanderlust, Udaipur is the place to be. Since childhood, the history subject always piqued my interest (yes, we exist). The city o (Read More)f Udaipur houses monuments and havelis rich in culture which also reveal the city?s historical past. A 3 nights 4 days trip is ample amount of time to explore the aesthetic City of Lakes. As exploring (not unwinding) was my main aim, I switched hotels every day to reduce travel time and tour even the uncharted tourist spots hidden in the city. You must visit the magnificent City Palace for starters, and then move on to the beautiful Lake Pichola, and then to Bagore Ki Haveli to breath in some history.

This is the crumbling palace on top of the hill you see looking over Udaipur. We made a call at Padharo Udaipur, and asked them to make a booking, for the driver and guide to take us there. The palac (Read More)e itself is fallilng apart and nothing to speak of. But the view from up on top of the hill is amazing. Don't miss it. Must say excellent service by Padharo Team, for any query just make a call, & they?ll help you out with that.

- The city is a bit humid, so light cotton clothes would be best. Carry proper woolens in the Winter as night temperature can be as low as 2 degree celcius in the winters
