Hastings Gardens, Valletta Overview

Hastings Gardens is a public garden located in Valletta, Malta, situated atop St. John's and St. Michael's Bastions on the west side of the City Gate. The garden offers panoramic views of Floriana, Msida, Sliema, and Manoel Island. Within the garden stands a monument dedicated to Francis, Marquis of Hastings, a former governor of Malta who died in 1826 and is buried in the garden.

According to Maltese legend, Hastings Gardens were constructed in a remarkably short time, reflecting the industrious nature of the Maltese people. The gardens were designed by architect Adriano De Vina. They are accessible via stairs located to the left upon entering Valletta on foot. The gardens offer benches and shaded areas, making them ideal for relaxation. However, there are limited facilities such as restrooms or food vendors on-site. It's advisable to bring water and any necessities you might need during your visit.
