Unlike the night market of Luang Prabang which caters to locals as well as tourists, Vientiane night market focuses on tourists primarily. The cost of these items are reasonable although you get better prices elsewhere in Laos.
Here are some of the things that you can shop at Vientiane night market.
- Souvenir items include handicrafts, bags made of cotton and jute, bamboo lanterns, dolls made of colourful fabrics, paintings and statues of Buddha made of wood and stone, silk scarves, crafts, handbags, and wooden sculptures.
- Clothes are the next popular items sold here. You can find trousers, cotton t-shirts, shorts, skirts, sarongs made of cotton and woven by hand, blouses and silk fabrics.
- Vientiane night market also sells electronic items, including phones, earphones and other accessories, although it is hard to validate their quality.
There are no food stalls in the market, unlike Luang Prabang, so it's not a place to look for dinner. But head to the local restaurants and cafes located close to the market on the other side of the street for food and drink options.
Apart from the market, the promenade next to the river is a great place to witness a sunset.
