Volos, the sixth most populated city of Greece, is located midway between Athens and Thessaloniki on the Greece mainland. It is an important port city and only outlet to the sea in Thessaly, GreeceÍs largest agricultural region. Volos is known for its seafront promenades surrounded by tsipouradiko place, cafes and pubs. Teeming with life, this Greek university town gets crowded by nightfall and locals occupy chic drinking places until early morning hours.
Volos has plenty of beaches in the southern as well as south west end. Few beaches like Agria and Platanidia are outside the city. Apart from exploring beaches, local food and drinks, admiring street art and drinking tsipouro and meze, Volos serves as a rest stop on the path to the Pelion villages, Skiathos, Skopelos, Skyra and Alonissos. The city is practically 'little Thessaloniki' and acts as a gateway to explore nearby idyllic villages in Pelion mountains. In addition to this, according to the most famous chapters of Greek mythology, Volos was the starting point of the ancient expedition of Jason and the Argonauts.
