U Thant House History & Significance

U Thant was one of the prominent political figures of Burma who is most noted for serving at the United Nations. He resided there during his active years, and the building was later owned by the government. Like the other structures of the time, the house represents rich colonial architecture and has many rooms and halls.

Some of the rooms were converted to a museum in 2012 by Yangon Heritage House, which runs the operations of the house today.  The museum has a collection of photographs, journals and artefacts depicting the life of the General and a glimpse of Burma during his time. The house is also a famous venue for seminars, meets and public events.
