Situated near the road to Paje, opposite the entrance to Jozani-Chwaka National Park, the Jozani Sea Turtle Sanctuary is a community effort owned by local Jozani farm owners in Zanzibar. Their goal is to protect sea turtles and help them recover. The sanctuary features three large pools where visitors can watch sea turtles and fish-farming activities together.
Created to spread awareness about sea turtle conservation, the sanctuary has evolved into a home for various animals, including Hawksbill and Juvenile Green sea turtles, Leopard Tortoises, Monitor lizards, and Mallet fish used for fish farming. It also houses giant Aldabra tortoises relocated from Chunguu Island. A visit to the Jozani Sea Turtle Sanctuary can be combined with a trip to Jozani Forest for a more comprehensive wildlife experience.
