Mtoni Palace Ruins, Zanzibar Overview

Located on Zanzibar's western beach, the Mtoni Palace Ruins, one of the island's oldest palaces, offer a glimpse into the lives of Arabian royalty from many years ago. The ruins have a historic charm and even host a living history show with a concert and dinner every Tuesday and Friday for a cultural touch.

Built between 1828 and 1834 for Sultan Seyyid Said, the palace includes an old reception hall, palace gardens, and remnants of ancient Persian baths. While exploring, having a guide might be helpful since there aren't many signs. The palace used to be the home for the sultan's wives and numerous children, serving as a significant seat of power for the sultan of East Africa and Oman. Close by, the Maruhubi Palace adds to the historical landscape with more 19th-century sultanate ruins.
