People's Palace Museum, Zanzibar Overview

The People's Palace Museum (originally called the Sultan's Palace), or Beit al-Sahel, is found on Mizingani Road in Stone Town, Zanzibar. Originally the Sultan's official residence in the 19th century, this three-story building is now a museum showcasing the history and culture of the Zanzibar Sultanate. Inside, you'll discover furniture, photographs, and personal items from the royal family.

As a key historical site, the museum offers a chance to explore the beautifully restored palace. It boasts marble floors, coral stone walls, and silver decorations. The museum shares the stories of Said bin Sultan of Oman and his daughter, Princess Salme. These two figures play a vital role in the palace's historical charm. The exhibits and narratives give a special look into their lives, adding to the rich history and cultural heritage associated with the palace.
