Zanzibar Land Animal Park
ZALA Park, Zanzibar Overview
Zanzibar Land Animal Park (ZALA) is a small animal shelter, located just 5 kilometres from Jozani National Park. Its main purpose is to teach kids about caring for endangered animals, specifically reptiles. During a tour led by a park ranger, visitors can get up close to most animals and reptiles, kept in small open-air enclosures, and even handle them if they want.
ZALA is home to native species living in a natural environment. Animals like big pythons, chameleons, geckos, tortoises, crabs, dik-dik, striped lizards, monitor lizards, and hyrax are part of the park. The surroundings also feature fruit trees such as orange, lime, grapefruit, nutmeg, banana, ginger, chillies, black peppers, and cinnamon. Beyond being a place to learn about animals, Zala Park was founded to help local people understand and appreciate the value of wildlife conservation.
