Fantastic Picnic Spots in Hyderabad

With over 1500 species of wildlife finding habitat here, the Nehru Zoological Park is one of the most popular picnic spots in Hyderabad. Neighbouring the Mir Alam tank, it is also known as Hyderabad Zoo. The massive enclosure hosts animals like the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Bengal Tiger, Indian Elephant as well as panthers, pythons, deer, and antelopes. Given the proximity to the tank, a number of migratory birds can also be spotted here. 

Ramoji Film City attracts all the lovers of cinema and Bollywood! Set up by Ramoji Rao, the head of Ramoji group in 1991, Ramoji Film City is a spectacular getaway a little outside the city of Hyderabad. It is spread over 2500 acres and has been certified as the World's largest Film Studio Complex by the Guinness Book of World Records. It is a fun place to hang out with friends and parents and makes for a wonderful recreational sightseeing tour. 

Renowned as Asia's largest artificial lake, Hussain Sagar Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions located in Hyderabad. The lake itself was commissioned by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1563 and is renowned for its monolith of Lord Buddha that stands right in its centre. Visitors love the serene nature of the lakeside and children can be seen playing daily accompanied by parents. The lake also has a 3 km long dam wall and connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Another popular park in Hyderabad is Lumbini Park. It is a gorgeous urban park named after Lumbini of Nepal. Located alongside Hussain Sagar, the park has an artificial water tank. A huge statue of Lord Buddha is installed in the tank which can be reached through paddle boats. The park also holds musical fountain shows making it a popular visit for parents with their kids. 

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park, i.e. KBR National Park is situated in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. KBR park boasts of rich flora and fauna and provides a pleasant respite from the din and chaos of the city. Also known as Chiran Fort Palace, the park is divided into conservation zones where entry is restricted and visitors zone where tourist entry is regulated. You get to walk alongside peacocks, spend time in spotting rare birds, breathe some fresh air and relax.

Located adjacent to the Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, NTR Gardens is a tiny but gorgeous park dotted with brightly coloured plants and tall trees. Boasting of well-groomed landscaping, ornate lamp posts and brilliant water fountains, the park also has a souvenir shop, toy train, freefall, restaurants and variety of fun activities for both kids and adults. With excellent open grounds, the park serves as a highly recommended picnic spot in Hyderabad.

Located in the slightly silent and remote region of Chilkur in Hyderabad, Mrugavani National Park is the most popular weekend getaway for the locals and a common picnic destination for tourists and locals. Sprawling over a vast area of 1211 acres, the park houses a whopping 600 species of animals and plants. The park was declared a National Park only in 1994. In addition to birdwatching and jungle safaris, the park also houses a tall tower that offers mesmerising views of the wildlands. 

On the outskirts of Hyderabad, also known as Gandipet is the Osman Sagar lake. Elless world, Ocean Park and Treasure island surround this lake, making it a famous tourist destination. The water body was made by building a dam on Moosi River in the year 1920 by Mir Osman Ali Khan and the cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad find a water source in this lake. Visitors come to spend a leisurely afternoon with friends and family. Replete with gardens and a pool, the lakeside is an ideal spot for picnics.

Being the only place in Hyderabad where one can find snow, Snow World is quite popular among the locals and the tourists alike. It is the world's third-biggest and the first snow-themed park in India. It is unique due to the fact that the snow here is produced by mineral water and is free from any harmful pollutants! Snow World offers various games and activities such as ice skating, ice boarding, snow slides with bumping-car, toboggan rides and many more. 

Situated in Shamshabad in Hyderabad, Escape Water and Adventure Park is an escape from the hot clutches of Hyderabad's summer.  The fun amusement park is also a popular dinner and date place besides being a regular water park. Situated in the Hi-Tech city, around 16 kms from the city centre of Hyderabad, Hyderabad Botanical Garden is a major attraction of the city. The park boasts of a rich variety of plants, shrubs, trees, flowering plants and medicinal herbs. In addition to that, several meandering waterways and fountains add to the charm of the place.
