Anantnag is one of the most beautiful cities in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with gushing streams and sights and sounds that make Kashmir the heaven that it truly is. Located at a distance of 53 km from Srinagar, Anantnag is regarded as the commercial and financial capital of the Kashmir valley. 

It is a large business and trading centre of the valley. Near Anantnag exists the confluence of three streams, Arapath, Brengi and Sandran, and the resulting river is named Veth or Jhelum. There are several larger streams such as Brengi. Another stream Lidder joins the river a little downstream and from that point the river becomes navigable. In olden times river, Jhelum was the main source of transportation between Anantnag and other towns downstream.

Whitewater rafting: Pahalgam skirts Lidder river and torrential flow of water in Lidder river enriches the remarkable beauty of the Valley. White water rafting hence is one of the main attractions for adventure enthusiasts here in Lidder river.
Zorbing: Anantnag marks the stamping ground for top four destinations for Zorbing in India. Pahalgam- Situated 45 km away from Anantnag 7200 feet above the sea level is the solace for zorbing. Zorbing involves rolling downhill inside a giant inflatable ball. The arrangements can be made in Pahalgam costing INR 300-350 for a roll downhill.

Day 1: Arrive in Anantnag early morning. Check into your hotel and freshen up. Later go for a jaunt from Anantnag to Verinag to see Mughal Garden. It is a 1-hour road journey from Anantnag. On your way back, cross Jawahar Tunnel, and enjoy the beauty of the Kashmir Valley from a viewpoint, called The Titanic Point. After this, you can head to Aishmuqam Shrine (Dargah), and paint yourself in the holy picture of spirituality and religion. Aishmuqam Shrine rests on a hillock, around 64 km away from Jawahar Tunnel. It is believed that whatever you ask for in the shrine comes true.

Day 2: Go for an early morning tour of Kherbawani Asthapan to relish the sight of the changing water colour of the spring. Head to the Botanical Garden Kokernag (home to over one lakh species of flora including trees, roses, shrubs and bushes) to have an ethereal experience, to feel close to nature in this picturesque environment.

You can hire a taxi to go to Anantnag from the airport or take a bus which frequently operates on this route.

How to reach Anantnag by road

There is no direct bus between New Delhi and Anantnag. You can take Go Air from New Delhi to Jammu then take State Transport Bus from Jammu to Anantnag which is at the distance of around 242 km. Alternatively, you can hire a taxi to travel to Anantnag, after making sure that the driver has experience of driving in the hilly region.

To get around this city, the best modes of transport are the auto rickshaws and the taxis. The auto rickshaws do not ply on meters and hence the prices are negotiable, meanwhile the taxis are a bit costlier than the auto rickshaws.
