Situated in the island of Rattanakosin lies the grand Sanam Luang Park which is also called ‘Thung Pra Meru’ meaning the cremation ground for the Royals. It is nearly thirty acres of green space right at the centre of Old Bangkok, in front of Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace, ,surrounded by prominent attractions. If you are tired of the concrete jungle and its fast-paced life then head to Sanam Luang.
Green spaces serve as the lungs to the city and Sanam Luang is a fine example of the same. As you stand in this park looking around, you find yourself admiring the unique architecture of Bangkok. Sanam Luang served as the royal cremation ground till it was decided that the cremation would be carried out beyond the city limits. Today, it is used for celebrations such as the royal ceremony for ploughing to start the planting season on an auspicious note. It is also used for political rallying at the time of national elections. Sanam Luang is also used for many other festivals and revelries throughout the year.
