Located south of Batam in the Riau Archipelago province, Pulau Abang is a tropical island with stunning corals and clear teal water with swaying palm trees and mangroves. Also called the Abang Islands, it is famous for snorkeling and diving. This mesmerizing dive site is surrounded by many small islands, primarily conservation sites for the corals, while the main Abang Island is only 10 square km.
The reason why underwater activities are so famous here is that it has a beautifully clean and absolutely untouched coral reef vegetation - the blue corals. It is these corals that attract most of the marine creatures and make it a life-time experience for all tourists who opt for the snorkelling.
Snorkelling and diving – Both are activities that are highly looked out for here in this place. Under the sea of the Abang Island, lies a beautiful stretch of coral reef vegetation. The rare corals found here is what attracts divers to this place in huge numbers. And the best part is that these reefs have been maintained - they remain untouched and absolutely unpolluted. Such is the clarity of the coral reef found here that it is popularly known as the “Blue Corals”!
Booking a Snorkelling Tour
There are a number of websites that provide bookings for snorkelling coupled with other activities like diving and ferry boat ride. This makes booking easier. One of the good packages available are – 350 RP per person for an entire day trip in Pulau Abang that includes snorkelling and diving, a trainer, the kit for snorkelling, a shuttle bus, boat ride, snack and lunch, tour guide and documentation.
There are other packages available too depending on the number of persons snorkelling. The rates for snorkelling and diving usually is between 730,000 IDR for two people to 330,000 IDR for four more than a group of 7 people. Rates also tend to differ based on whether people want to include land transfer in their package or not.
