San Cristobal de la Laguna, Canary Islands Overview

Located in the island of Tenerife, San Cristobal de la Laguna is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Well known for its rich cultural heritage, the city was one of the first unfortified towns. It is full of Neoclassical, Mudejar, Modernist, Contemporary, and Rationalist examples of architecture.

Owing to its outstanding cultural heritage, the colonial city of San Cristobal de la Laguna is one of the famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Formerly the capital of Tenerife Island, the historic town is now famous of all its architectural marvels, like cathedrals and churches. Most of the churches follow the Renaissance or Neoclassical style of architecture. Iglesia de Nuestra La Concepcion is the parish church of the town. Another important church is the Iglesia de Santo Domingo de Guzman, built in the 17th century. This church has a beautifully decorated interior with paintings by artist Cristobal Hernandez de Quintana and a Mudejar ceiling takes the church to another level. There is an history and anthropology museum in this town which provides the overview of the region and the island of Tenerife. There are three popular beaches in this town for all the beach lovers: Al Apio Beach, El Navio Beach and the Arenisco Beach.
