Opened in 2002, the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool was originally a part of the Victorian garden Built-in 1889. With a Prairie-style, Fullerton gate, a beautiful waterfall, a stone walk around the lily pool, a pavilion, and diverse native planting, the garden is a hidden gem amidst the city.
The garden is also known as the Lincoln Park Lily Pool and is an epitome of the prairie school architecture landscape. Designed by Alfred Cadwell along with Jens Jensen, some of the peculiar features of the garden include The Rookery and the circular benches, which is also called the council ring/ friendship circles. The pool is transformed into a water exhibit that featured exotic birds that were later known as the Rookery. Spread across three acres of land in Lincoln Park, the garden also features limestone-stone paths and curved walkways. Free tours for the lily pool are organized every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the general public.
