Delft City Hall, Delft Overview

The former seat of the government in Delft, the Delft City Hall, is a striking structure and a significant landmark of the city. The Delft City Hall is a superb Renaissance building located just across Nieuwe Kerk. It is a beautiful Renaissance-style building with Belgian limestone-covered tower.

Built on the location of the former town hall in 1620 (the initial building was burnt 2 years earlier, and was constructed in the 13th century). The columns and arches throughout the building are some examples of the pronounced Rennaisance style, as well as the intricate detailing that can be seen throughout. The tower, which is the oldest part of the building, is covered with elaborate Belgian limestone. Inside, there are some interesting pieces of artwork as well. The City Hall isn't used for government working anymore, but it is still used quite often for political events, as well as weddings. The balcony on the facade makes for some refreshing views of the city.
