The San Jeronimo Monastery is a stunning 16th-century Renaissance monastery located near the city center, about a 10-minute walk from Granada Cathedral. Known for its intricate Baroque altar and cloister adorned with beautiful frescoes, the monastery offers a serene and artistic retreat. It is historically significant as the burial site of the military leader Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, "The Great Captain."
The San Jeronimo Monastery served as a royal mausoleum and was home to the monks of the Hieronymite order. The monastery was renowned for its stunning architecture and impressive artwork, including paintings by famous Spanish artists such as Diego de Siloé and Alonso Cano. The monastery dates back to the 16th century and was built by the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.
