Founded in 1948, the Contemporary Arts Museum- Houston is a not-for-profit and non- collecting organization that works towards promoting contemporary art. The museum houses an extensive collection of contemporary art works of the present and recent past, as well as exhibits of other visual arts. It is known for its various permanent and changing exhibitions, programs and events which provide an interactive experience to visitors.
Open to children and adults, it organises programs such as lectures, readings, music and film performances so that visitors can engage with artists and curators, along with workshops wherein they have the opportunity to actually experiment with different tools and materials. The museum also hosts several fundraisers and auctions so as to fund its exhibitions and programs. The Museum Shop is a great place to find a variety of books and catalogs on the museum’s collections, alongside artist-made jewellery, home and office décor, toys, games and more.
