The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft or the HCCC was founded in the year 2001 and has since worked towards educating people about craft; about its history, process and product. It focuses specifically on art work made from glass, metal, wood, clay, fiber, and other recycled materials.
The Craft Garden, which is divided into 4 sections (baskets, textiles, papers and dyes), is where visitors get to see the planting and production of materials. There are one-hour long guided tours which take visitors around the various exhibitions and the Craft Garden, and allow them to interact with the resident artists. The Artist Residency Program offers artists a space to create their art, irrespective of the medium. It also hosts several events which allow visitors to interact with different artists, learn about the exhibits and much more.
