Initially called the Houston Museum and Scientific Society Inc., the Houston Museum of Natural Science is situated close to Hermann Park. It was built in 1909 and is one of the most frequently visited museums in the country owing to its exhibits that feature gemstones, plant and animal displays, mineral specimens, the Foucault pendulum, archaeological artefacts, Egyptian temple and mummy recreations and more.
The structure is composed of 5 floors of exhibits, permanent natural science halls, as well as 3 separate facilities. The George Observatory at the museum hosts different kinds of educational events like Rocket Day, Baby Boomers and Astronomy Day, amongst others. Also, the store at the museum sells a variety of products, ranging from apparel, home and office products, fine jewellery, toys, gems, minerals etc.
