Established around 1980, the McClain Gallery focuses mainly on American as well as European contemporary and modern art, and its exhibitions feature work of many 20th century artists along with many current day ones. It also promotes the work of many Texas-based artists.

Numerous mounted exhibitions and published scholarly catalogues (of Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Rosa Loy etc.) are the key attractions of the gallery, while the exhibitions program includes survey and group shows focusing on current themes in contemporary art.
