Established in 1969, The Health Museum is officially known as the John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science and is one of the 19 museums in the Museum District of Houston. Aiming to inculcate a curiosity pertaining to medical science, the human body and health, the museum offers to its visitors an interactive experience.
They get a chance to see real organ dissections, massive organs and body parts, including a giant beating heart, brain and eyeball, visit various exhibits, and attend programs like summer camps, scout programs, science classes, health fairs and more. The DeBakery Cell Lab provides an opportunity to put on lab gear like goggles, gloves and coats, and participate in numerous experiments, while the McGovern Theater regularly plays shows to engage all the senses. There is also a gift shop at the museum, Amazing Body Store, that sells an array of gift items.
