Commissioned by President Soeharto, Patung Dirgantara is a monument dedicated to the Indonesian Air Force to honor the country's struggle for independence. Located at the intersection of Jalan Gatot Subroto and Jalan MT Haryono, the statue depicts a "space man" symbolic of the space conquest. In pop culture, the statue has been given many nicknames due to the statue's posture, some of them include "Truper" (a corruption of "trooper") and Seven-up Man, due to the arch-shaped like a seven-figure, and is a firm fixture of the Jakarta cityscape.
Also known as Gatot Kaca Monument, Patung Dirgantara monument was funded by the President of Indonesia, Sukarno in the year 1964. The statue depicts a human being in space, which describes the courage and spirit of the Indonesian people to explore space.
