Located in the David Agmashenebeli square of Kutaisi, Colchis Fountain is a historical monument surrounded by modern urban structures. The fountain has four levels that hold golden statues replicating animals and ancient Georgian figures. These statues are placed on pedestals decorated with blue-colored mosaics. The central piece of the fountain is a pair of golden horses. In the evening, the lights reflecting on the splashing water and the golden statues make the fountain look more attractive.
The figurines at the fountain are large-scale copies of the famous gold jewelry discovered at the nearby archaeological site of Vani, including the famous bronze statue of Tamada. Colchis Fountain stands in the center of the city as a public art and cultural representation since 2012 and was created by Georgian architect David Gogichaishvili.Since the structure is situated at a traffic roundabout, You need to be extra cautious while approaching it. You can find many shops and eateries around the fountain. It can be reached easily from any part of the city via bus or taxi.
