The Musegg Wall is a well-preserved medieval fortification offering stunning views of the city, Lake Lucerne, and the surrounding mountains. Located a short walk from Lucerne’s Old Town, the wall features nine towers, four of which are open to the public, including the Zyt Tower with its historic clock. Visitors can explore the towers and walk along portions of the wall. These towers are open seasonally from April to November.
The towers and defenses of Musegg Wall were constructed in the 13th century and consisted of two rings of ramparts. From The Wall's summit, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views over the city and the nearby mountains. These walls had watch towers built, a total of 9, to look over the wall. Some of these had roofs, and some did not. Interestingly, all nine towers were built in different architectural styles. The accessible towers from East to West are- the Schirmer Tower, the Zyt Tower, which became a clock tower in 1535, the Wacht Tower, and the Mannli Tower. The Musegg Wall is an outstanding example of ancient construction.
