A 200-foot horsetail waterfall, Makahiku Falls in Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii, runs along the Ohe’o Gulch stream. To get to the falls, one must pass through the Pipiwai Trail.
Considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Maui, Makahiku Falls sits at an elevation of 650 feet, with 4 miles roundtrip. It takes approximately two and half hours to get to the falls, depending on how absorbed one gets amidst nature. The waterfall is considered a horsetail waterfall because of how the water keeps in touch with the bedrock until it gets to the bottom. It falls narrowly towards the start and widens as it hits the bottom, giving it a look of a horsetail.
