One of Africa’s most popular live butterfly exhibits, the Mombasa Butterfly House, is located within the Fort Jesus Museum on Nkrumah Road. It consists of a large variety of butterflies bred and preserved in their natural environment. The best time to visit is in the morning when the butterflies are the most active.
Experts here educate visitors about the different kinds of butterflies and their life cycle. It is a great place to visit with children who can hold the colourful creatures in their hands. There is a small gift shop on the premises too. One can also ride a bike on a green trail close to the building, visit a pond nearby or set up a picnic.
