The Mombasa Tusks is a monument over Moi avenue. It is also known as Pembe za Ndovu, meaning elephant tusks in Swahili. It was originally made of wood and was built to resemble elephant tusks. But in recent years, it has been reconstructed in aluminium to resemble an M shape, coincidentally standing for the first letter in Mombasa.
The original monument was constructed by the British administration in Kenya, in 1952, to celebrate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was residing at the Mombasa Yachting Club and the monument was built on the road leading to her place of stay. The monument is a famous attraction that can be visited all year round, and has no entry fee.
