Bangalore to Mysore

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation operates frequent bus services between the two cities. There is a separate platform for Bangalore-Mysore buses at KSRTC Satellite bus stand. One can take the tickets from the counter near the platform and avail the buses from there.

Local Transport at Mysore Railway Station

Taxis and cabs are plying to all major points in the city, and this is the most convenient mode of travel. Many local taxis are always available for hire inside the station premises, but one can one book them online or from the kiosk there. The city bus stop is right opposite to the railway station from where buses leave for all major points, and one can take a bus as well. Prepaid auto rickshaws stand inside the railway station, or can be booked from a kiosk inside. Most fares are fixed. The booking booth shows all the frequented points in the city and their corresponding fares.

Tips

Keep an eye on the ticket bookings and reservations, because the seats run out fast. Book at least a week prior to the journey.

One can self drive to Mysore or book a cab or taxi, from well-reputed cab operators. The state highway SH17 connecting Bangalore to Mysore is busy, with four lanes and fast route. The distance is 140 kilometres, and the route is scenic, with many villages and towns on the way.
By this mode of travel, Mysore can be reached in about 3 hours. When looking for cab options, packages are available that include cab pickups and drop and also a sightseeing package. Popular cab operators, such as Ola, Meru or Taxi, are highly recommended. The fares depend on the distance as well as wait time. Apart from these, there are local cab operators, some famous ones being Bharat International Travels, Akbar travels KSTDC etc.

Road Conditions

The routes 1 and 3 are more traffic prone than route 2. In the case of public transport, it is preferable to take route 1 or 3. Route 2 has relatively better roads, is less busy and more scenic. The highway NH275 is well maintained and busy during weekdays too. The NH948 is the less travelled one, with less number of hotels and restaurants on the way, but more scenic spots.

Eating Options on the Way

There are many hotels and restaurants on both highways. One of the popular ones is Baburayanakoppal, just before Srirangapatna. There are breakfast points at Bidadi, famous for idlis. Roadside eateries serving vegetarian, as well as non-vegetarian food, are available in plenty. MTR Shivalli is a good place for breakfast and lunch for vegetarians. Maddur Tiffany's, UpSouth, A2B, Vasudev Adiga's are some of the famous eating stops. CCD and Rasta cafe are popular for halting and hangout.
