Prague Astronomical Clock, Prague Overview

Prague Astronomical Clock is one of the most famous and iconic landmarks in the Czech Republic. Located on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall in Old Town Square, it is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest still in operation. It features a fascinating hourly show(30 seconds to 1 minute) of the Twelve Apostles, alongside12 animated figures like a skeleton representing Death, Vanity, Greed, and Extravagance. The area can get very crowded during hourly shows, beware of pickpockets.

The clock shows more than just the time; it also displays astronomical details, such as the positions of the Sun and Moon, zodiac signs, and the phases of the moon. Built by Mikuláš of Kadaň and Jan Šindel, the clock has stood for more than 600 years, surviving wars and extensive repairs. The clock’s hourly show is a highlight for visitors, drawing large crowds every day. A rooster crow and chime conclude the spectacle, making it a memorable experience. Every hour from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, the apostles appear through two small windows, accompanied by moving sculptures and the chime of the clock.
