Perissa black sand beach is the most popular beach in Santorini, which lies on the foot of the Mesa Vuono Mountain. It is famous for kayaking and other watersports like canoeing, windsurfing, waterskiing, banana boats, and parasailing. The beach has been awarded the E.U Blue Flag.
It is a 30-minute drive from Fira. The middle and south parts of the beach are relatively less noisy, unlike the north. The sand gets hot in summer, so carrying beach slippers is advisable. The boardwalk makes it easier to walk from one end to the other.
Snorkelling gear and water shoes are available for rent in shops on the beach. The lustrous black colour of the sand is due to the powdered volcanic rock mixed with shimmery minerals. Unlike other beaches' sand, you won't feel the powdery texture on your feet. Perissa is a cosmopolitan beach with a party environment at all times.
Facilities : Kid's playground, a water park with three water slides, lounging chairs, sunbeds, umbrellas, lifeguards on duty, and shower rooms.
Cost for Sunbeds and Umbrellas : 10 EUR to 15 EUR near the water, or a free lounger if dining at one of the bars and restaurants on the beach.
