Skaros Rock is a large volcanic rock formation in the caldera of Santorini. It is located ahead of the village of Imerovigli. The rock is known for its hiking trail starting from Agios Georgios Church and connecting Skaros to the village. It also provides breathtaking views of the sea and the surrounding area.
There used to be a fortress of Kasteli on Skaros Rock but the site has just a pile of rocks left from the ruins of it. The fortress was the principal place of the Christian congregation that was built to protect against pirate invasions. Skaros used to be the capital of Santorini in the 18th century. The neighbouring area of Skaros is equipped with hotels, restaurants, cafes and other amenities.
