Hagar Qim Temple is a prehistoric megalithic complex located near Qrendi, southwest of Valletta. Perched atop a promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the islet of Filfla, this UNESCO World Heritage site dates back over 5,000 years to the Ġgantija phase (3600–3200 BC). Excavated in 1839, it is renowned for its unique architectural features, including a central passage paved with stone slabs leading to chambers with beaten earth floors.
The temple's builders utilized globigerina limestone, which has weathered over millennia, leading to the installation of protective shelters in 2009 to preserve the structure. Notably, Hagar Qim is part of the Megalithic Temples of Malta, considered some of the oldest free-standing stone buildings in the world. The nearby Mnajdra Temples, located about 500 meters downhill, are often visited together with Haġar Qim. A combined ticket is available for both sites.
