Can I take my car to Sikkim?

Yes, you can take your own car to travel to Sikkim or you can get a self-drive car too, especially if you are visiting any of the unprotected areas. However, if you are planning on entering any of the protected areas which are closer to the border like Nathula Pass or Tsomgo Lake, you will need to rent a Sikkim registered vehicle from a tour operator; it must be an SUV like Bolero, Innova or Scorpio. Keep in mind to procure the necessary permits to enter these areas.

Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from NJP, and you can hire a taxi or use other modes of transportation to reach there.

The temperature drops as low as -5°C and the views are absolutely magnificent. You can also ride the ropeway, go skiing and yak riding during this time.
