Chandigarh-Manali national highway was severely affected near Bilaspur town as traffic came to a standstill and hundreds of commuters were stranded on Sunday.
60 roads have been damaged during last 12 hours due to incessant rains in Kullu as informed by Kullu deputy commissioner Richa Verma.
Another landslide at Jarol near Sundernagar in Shimla district led to the disruption of traffic on the highway in the morning on Sunday. The Hindustan-Tibet national highway (NH5) also remains blocked at Siaskhad Bridge near Spillow, Ribbah and Nathpa.
Damage has been reported at The Kalka-Shimla highway at several locations and traffic has been hampered at Taradevi Chharabra and Fagu, disrupting transportation of apple. A bridge near the town of Kullu was washed away due to flash floods. The situation is Himanchal has turned critical.
Due to the landslide, over about 1,000 people have been stranded in Kodksar, Chhota Dara and Chandertal area of Lahaul-Spiti and Leh-Manali highway.
Electricity has also been adversely affected in Shimla let alone traffic. There was no electric supply in a few localities of Himachal. Several people have been rescued and the police are continuously engaged in rescue work, said Superintendent of police Omapati Jamwal.
