Why The Orange Alert?
Temperature conditions in Himachal Pradesh got more severe due to fresh snowfall and rain in parts of the state, which also intensified the cold conditions. Further, as per Manmohan Singh, Director of Shimla Meteorological Department, a fresh western disturbance has approached the state, the impact of which would likely be visible for the next two days.He also added that heavy snowfall could be expected in higher areas of Shimla, Mandi, Sirmaur, Kangra, Chamba and Kullu districts beside Lahaul–Spiti and Kinnaur during this period. Also, the lower altitude regions of the State can expect rain and hailstorms around this time. Due to this reason, the maximum temperature across the hill station has dropped from 6 to 7-degree Celsius below the standard temperatures.
Precautions By The Local Administration
Manmohan Singh also mentioned that snow clearing operations on roads blocked due to snowfall are under progress. In contrast, in the urban areas of the city, the streets are accessible for vehicular traffic. As per sources, around 300 tourist's vehicles were stranded in Solang Valley after they began skidding. In the line of this incident, the District Administration has also deployed adequate machinery to assure smooth traffic movement across the city. A team has also been sent to rescue the stranded people. Thus, with the vehicular movement dependent on weather conditions, it is advised to avoid travelling to Himachal Pradesh in the coming days till the weather clears. If you are currently in either of the Orange Alert districts of Himachal Pradesh, exercise precautions while travelling to avoid any mishap.
