All foreign nationals, including Bangladeshi citizens, must possess a valid international travel document, such as a national passport, along with a valid visa obtained from an Indian Mission or Post abroad to enter India. Holders of Diplomatic or Official Passports issued by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh do not require a visa for travel to India and can stay for up to 45 days.

Application Process for Indian Visa from Bangladesh

Step 1 - Online Application: Individual visa seekers must apply for an Indian Visa through the online application link. This process allows applicants to complete and submit their visa applications from the comfort of their home. Here's how to fill an online application

Step 2 - Physical Submission: Once the online application is completed and successfully submitted, a printed and duly signed physical copy must be submitted at the relevant Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) or directly to the Indian Mission/Post on the scheduled date of the interview, along with all requisite supporting documents.

Documents Required for Tourist Visa

Passport: Original passport with a minimum validity of six months from the application date and at least two blank pages. All old passports must be submitted with the application. If lost, include the GD copy.
Photographs: One recent passport-size color photograph (2x2 inches) with a white background.
National ID/Birth Certificate: A copy of the National ID Card or Birth Certificate, whichever is applicable.
Proof of Residence: A copy of an electricity bill, gas bill, or landline telephone bill (not less than 6 months old).
Financial Proof: Endorsement of foreign currency equivalent to US$150 per applicant (endorsement should not be older than three months), an updated summary bank statement showing sufficient funds, or a copy of an international credit card or travel card.
Proof of Profession:
  • Government Order Copy (for serving government employees).
  • Certificate from the employer (for private company employees).
  • Registration copy of the business establishment by the Government of Bangladesh (for self-employed persons).
  • Identity card from the educational institution (for students).
  • Retirement papers (for retired government employees).
Additional Requirements for Long-Term Tourist Visas
For long-term tourist visas, additional documents from India are required, such as a copy of the sponsor's passport, electricity bill, telephone bill, ration card, or Election I-card (any two documents).

Checklist Before Submission
To avoid rejection or delays, ensure the following:
  • Correct passport number is mentioned in the application.
  • Correct expiry date and date of issue of the passport are listed.
  • The name in the application matches the passport.
  • The scanned photo appears correctly in the application printout.
  • Previous visa details are correctly filled.
  • References in India and Bangladesh are completed.
  • Present address matches the utility bill.
  • Occupation details are correctly filled.
  • Date of birth matches the NID/Birth Certificate.
  • The application form is submitted at the IVAC center within 8 days of filling it out.
  • For Muktijoddha applicants, a gadget copy is required.

Indian Visa Fee Bangladesh and Registration

All e-visas for Bangladeshi nationals are issued free of charge. However, all visa applicants at any Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Bangladesh are required to pay a non-refundable Visa Processing Fee (VPF). The processing fee for Indian visas has been revised to BDT 800/-.

Registration: Bangladeshi nationals visiting India on a valid visa who wish to stay for more than six months continuously must register with the respective FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival to obtain a residential permit.

Indian Visa Validity & Processing TIme

The validity of Indian visas for Bangladeshi nationals can vary based on the type of visa being applied for. Below are the general guidelines:

Tourist Visa Short-term Double Entry Visa:

  • Valid for a maximum period of three months.
  • Stay during each visit should not exceed 15 days.
  • Non-extendable.
Long-term Multiple Entry Tourist Visa:
  • Valid for up to one year.
  • Continuous stay during each visit should not exceed 90 days.
  • For Bangladeshi nationals over the age of 65 years, a multiple-entry long-term Tourist Visa can be granted for a period of five years, subject to the condition that continuous stay during each visit does not exceed 90 days.
Processing Time: 3-5 Working Days
Emergency Visa:  In cases of genuine emergency, visas can sometimes be processed more quickly, often within 1-2 working days. Applicants should contact the Indian Mission or Visa Application Center (IVAC) for specific guidelines on emergency visa processing.

General Information

Passport Delivery

  • Passports can be collected on or after the delivery date mentioned in the receipt during the designated delivery time.
  • In case of a lost receipt, the applicant must file a General Diary (GD) report at the local police station. The passport will be delivered upon submitting the original GD copy, one photo, and an application at the counter.
  • Passport delivery on authorization is not allowed.

Conditions for Entry into India

  • Even with a valid visa, entry into India may be prohibited if the visa was obtained by false representation or concealment of relevant facts.
  • Entry may be denied if circumstances change between the application date and arrival in India.
  • An immigration officer may require a medical examination upon arrival if deemed necessary.
  • Registration with the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is mandatory if your stay exceeds six months for all visa categories except medical/medical attendant visas. For these visas, registration within 14 days of arrival is required.
  • Authorities may deny entry for other reasons deemed appropriate, which may not necessarily be conveyed orally or recorded in writing.
