Documents Required for Indian Visa from Sri Lanka
For Sri Lankan Nationals
- Duly filled Application form: Ensure that all information is accurate and complete.
- Passport: A valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity and at least two blank pages.
- Copy of the NIC card or Copy of the Driving license: Valid identification is required. If you don’t have any of the above documents: Submit a copy of your Birth Certificate.
- Copy of the Birth Certificate: Necessary to establish age and identity.
- If a single parent is traveling with the child: Submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) signed by both parents.
- Passport copies or NIC of parents: To verify parental identity.
- Two recent (not more than 3 months old) 2×2-inch color photographs without spectacles. The photograph should depict the full face with both ears visible against a white background.
- The photo on the passport and the Visa Application Form (VAF) must match the applicant’s current appearance.
For Non-Sri Lankan Nationals
- A copy of the Sri Lankan Visa Page: To verify legal status in Sri Lanka.
- A copy of the Passport Bio Page: Necessary for identification.

Processing Time for Indian Visa from Sri Lanka
The processing time for Indian visas varies but generally takes around 3-5 working days for standard applications. Some applications may take longer, especially those requiring additional scrutiny.Important Instructions
- Dual Citizenship: India does not recognize dual citizenship. Sri Lankan nationals who have acquired foreign citizenship must submit their old Indian passport and renunciation certificate when applying for any Indian visa.
- Visa on Arrival: India does not provide a visa on arrival for Sri Lankan citizens. All visas must be obtained before traveling to India.
- Validity and Duration: The validity of all visas starts from the date of issue. Overstaying the visa duration can result in fines and legal consequences.
- e-Visa Facility: Sri Lankan citizens can also apply for an e-Visa, which is available for tourism, business, and medical purposes. The e-Visa is valid for 60 days with double entry and must be applied for online.
- Visa Extension: Tourist visas are not extendable. Other visas may be extended under certain conditions by applying to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in India.
- Biometrics and Interview: Applicants may be required to provide biometric data (fingerprints) and attend an interview at the Indian High Commission or Consulate.
