How To Renew Passport Online: Procedure for Renewal of Passport
- Visit the Official Portal: Start by visiting the official website of Passport Seva, i.e., www.passportindia.gov.in.
- Register Online: If you're a new user, register on the portal. Existing users can log in using their credentials.
- Fill in the Details: Click on "Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport". Fill in the required details accurately.
- Pay and Schedule Appointment: Once done, you can proceed to pay the passport renewal fee online. Post payment, you will be able to schedule an appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).
- Attend the Appointment: Visit the PSK or POPSK on the scheduled date and time. Remember to carry the required original documents.
What's the Validity of Indian Passport?
The validity of an Indian passport for adults is 10 years, after which it needs to be renewed. For minors (individuals below 18 years of age), the validity is typically 5 years or until they reach 18, after which they need to apply for a new adult passport. If you are travelling to a foreign country, your visa must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival. - Self-attested copies of the following:

- Validity Extension Page (if any) in a Short Validity Passport (SVP) Application Reference Number (ARN) received at the time of making online payment.
In case you are applying for renewal of your SVP, you are required to visit the PSK and fill an application for the same. SVPs are issues in one of the following cases:
- Proof of Date of Birth: Birth Certificate, PAN card, Aadhar card, or Driving License.
- Proof of Address: Any one of the following - Aadhaar Card, Water Bill, Telephone (landline or postpaid mobile bill), etc.
- Recent Passport Size Photographs: Usually, two photographs.
- NRIs visiting India for short duration.
