A Tourist Visa is granted to foreigners who do not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sight-seeing, or casual visits to meet friends and relatives. This visa is also suitable for attending short-term yoga programs. No other activities or purposes are permissible on a Tourist Visa.  This guide provides a detailed overview of the process for obtaining an Indian visa from Ireland, required documentation, application procedures, and payment methods.

How to Apply for a Regular Visa from Ireland?

The application for a regular visa must be completed online. Here are the steps to follow:

Access the Application Form: Visit Indian Visa Online to start your application.
Complete the Form: Carefully fill out the form, ensuring that all entries, such as passport number, name, date of birth, etc., are accurate.
Print the Completed Form: After filling out the form, print a copy of the completed application.
Application Submission: Submit the documents at the Embassy of India, 69 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin-4, Ireland.

Note: Please verify that all entries in both the online and printed application forms are accurate.

How to Apply for an e-Visa from Ireland?

The e-Tourist Visa scheme, launched by the Government of India on November 27, 2014, initially covered 43 countries and has been extended to additional countries over time. As of August 15, 2015, Ireland is included under this scheme.

Online e-Visa Fees for Irish Nationals

  • 30-day e-Visa (April to June): $10 USD
  • 30-day e-Visa (July to March): $25 USD
  • 1-year e-Visa: $40 USD
  • 5-year e-Visa: $80 USD
Note: 
Pakistani passport holders or individuals of Pakistani origin should apply for a regular visa at the Indian Mission.
The e-Visa is not available to Diplomatic/Official Passport holders, Laissez-passer travel document holders, individuals endorsed on a parent's or spouse's passport, or International Travel Document holders.

For Applications Submitted in Person
  • Fees can be paid via any major debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, JCB, Union Pay, etc.) at the POS terminal at the Embassy counter.
For Applications Submitted by Post
  • Fees can be paid via bank transfer to the Embassy's account. Ensure that the exact amount is transferred in a single transaction.
  • Always check the Embassy's website for the current fees or contact the Consular Section for confirmation before making the payment.

Documents Required for Indian Visa from Ireland

  • Printed Application Form: Complete and signed.
  • Photograph: One passport-size photograph with a white background.
  • Passport: The original passport with a minimum validity of six months from the date of entry into India, with at least two blank pages.
  • Minor Applicants:
Copy of the birth certificate.
Copies of both parents' passports.
Application form signed by both parents.
  • Proof of Residence in Ireland: Utility bill or bank statement.
  • Irish Residence Permit (IRP) Card: For non-Irish passport holders.
  • Fee Payment Proof: Proof of fee payment via the specified method.
Submission Process
  • In Person: Submit the documents at the Embassy of India, 69 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin-4, Ireland.
  • By Post: Include a self-addressed registered envelope for the return of your documents.

Processing Time & Validity

Irish Passport Holders:

In-person applications: 2 working days from submission.
Postal applications: Additional 8-10 working days.

Non-Irish Passport Holders:

In-person applications: 5 working days from submission.
Postal applications: Additional 8-10 working days.
Special Cases: Nationals of Pakistan, persons of Pakistani origin, and other Prior Reference Categories require longer processing times.

Validity

  • Continuous stay during each visit shall not exceed 90 days for nationals of Ireland.
  • The maximum stay in India on a paper Tourist Visa or an e-Tourist Visa, or both in one calendar year, is restricted to 180 days.

  • In Person: Applicants can collect their visa personally or authorize a third party with a signed authorization letter.
  • Collection Time: Monday to Friday, 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. (Except holidays).
