An example of great architectural prowess in the early 20th century, the Surabaya Town Hall follows a new Indies style of architecture and was designed by a Dutch architect. The town hall is the administrative centre of the city of Surabaya. The historical construction is what makes the town hall a famous attraction among the tourists.
Surabaya Town Hall was built by a Dutch architect, Cosman Citroen, in the 1920s. The construction of the building was carried out by Hollandsche Beton Mij. However, the Surabaya Town Hall took a long time to get completed owing to economic misconduct and funding issues. The original building plan had four massive structures although only the rear building was realized. Surabaya Town Hall was finally opened towards the end of 1927.
