Jodhpur to Udaipur

The Route from Jodhpur to Udaipur

The most common route that is taken by travelers to reach Udaipur from Jodhpur is

Jodhpur-Pali-Ranakpur-Kumbhalgarh-Udaipur.

 This is the best and easiest route option that is available. You will first have to drive 185 kilometers from Jodhpur to Ranakpur, via Rohat, Sanderao, and Sadari. The route will then take you through Sayra and Bhanpura to arrive at Kumbhalgarh, following which you will have to drive for another 85 kilometers to reach Udaipur. 

Road Conditions

The roads are very well built, and thanks to the excellent condition of the Jodhpur-Udaipur highway, you can enjoy a pleasant and comfortable journey on this route. Vehicles normally cruise at around 100 kilometers per hour on this route, so make sure that you drive carefully. Some parts of the journey, however, will take you through hilly regions, so motion sickness may become an issue.

Both Jodhpur and Udaipur have airports of their own, and it is easy to travel from one place to another via airways. However, the problem with airways on this route is that there are no direct flights on this route. Even though there are numerous flights available from Jodhpur to Udaipur, all of them are connecting flights. Thus, travelers have to spend large amounts of time traveling, and also pay huge amounts of money for the same. 

Air India and Jet Airways are the best options to choose from for those who want to travel to Udaipur from Jodhpur via air. The flights operated by these two airlines are also connecting ones, but still, they take a lot lesser time as compared to other indirect flights on this route. Fares for these flights start from around INR 4000 and you will be able to reach your destination in around 5 hours if you are lucky enough to find the shortest connecting flight.

Why are airways not advisable for this journey?

This mode of transportation, however, is a very long and tiring one; and ends up taking more time than other means of transportation between the two places. This is why travelers usually end up taking some other mode of transportation to travel from Jodhpur to Udaipur. No airline provides direct flights between Jodhpur and Udaipur as of now. Air India and Jet Airways offer connecting flights between the two places.

There are numerous private bus operators who operate direct buses on this route, and travelers are free to choose the operator whose buses suit their timings and budget. A lot of operators also provide additional facilities and amenities such as pillows, blankets, charging points, reading lights, etc. to their travelers, so remember to check these out before you finalize a bus for yourself. 

Buses usually take around 6 to 7 hours to complete this journey, and they leave at all times throughout the day. There are buses that leave in the evening at around 5:30, and then there are buses that leave late at night at around 10:30. There are multiple buses that also ply on this route between these hours, and thus travelers have a myriad of options to choose from.
