The best time to visit Rajaji National Park is from 15th November to 15th June as the park is closed in the other months. April to June are a bit warm; however, this is a better period to spot animals. It is advised to visit in the first half of the day to be able to explore the most of the park. Rajaji National Park in Winter (November - February)

After the monsoons have receded completely, winters make a comeback at Rajaji National Park. The doors to the magical reserve are opened once again from mid-November when the season is reaching its peak. During the time, the skies remain clear, and the temperature hovers between a pleasant 17°C and 22°C. One, however, needs to be aware that December and January are the coldest months. So carrying woollens, jackets and other essentials is a must. February is milder, and by the end of the month, the national park makes a smooth transition into the summer season.

As the winter season begins, Jeep and Elephant Safaris are back in business to allow tourists to explore the national reserve safely. Flora and fauna is a treat to the eyes as the park is still densely vegetated and the residing animals come out to hunt or soak in some gentle rays of the sun. The outer region of the majestic Himalayas where the Rajaji National Park is located amidst the Shivalik Hills receives an average annual rainfall of over 6400 mm. July marks the onset of the monsoon season in the region. Mid-July or August onwards, the rains pick up putting a halt on tourism. The monsoons do add to the existing beauty of the national park. The terrain gets covered with more greenery, and the atmosphere becomes cool, misty and magical. But it is still not considered a good or safe time to explore the reserve. Therefore, 15th June onwards, the park remains closed till November 15th every year.

Usually, the temperature ranges between 22°C and 38°C. One can figure out that the afternoons will be a little too hot, so exploring certain parts of the national park where there is direct sunlight can be avoided. One may even skip the afternoons during this time. A Jeep or an Elephant Safari is the best way to witness the picturesque beauty and the fascinating flora and fauna of the region. Wearing light clothing especially cotton, hats, a right amount of sunscreen and keeping oneself hydrated is a must to make these safari rides even more comfortable and enjoyable.

While nature and animals lovers are sure to have a great time exploring the national park which is home to several animals like the Bengal Tiger, bears, boars, Jackal, Sambhar, Porcupines, Indian Hare, Indian Langur, Leopard, the Barking Deer etc. It is also an excellent time for birdwatching.
