The four spots Marve to Manori, Bhayander to Vasai, Borivli to Gorai and Virar to Palghar will let you ferry your vehicle over the sea in a jiffy. The project ascended with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) who appointed an agency to analyse the feasibility of RoRo services across the east coast which came up to a conclusion that the project could hold up to 80 cars with 320 passengers. The Launch of Ro-Ro Ferry Service
With an aim to provide a new chapter to the water transport history of Maharashtra, the project has three significant aspects; reduction in traffic, scarcer pollution and less time taken to travel. From a distance that consumed 1-2 hours of time will now cover the same range in just 10-20 minutes. The structure of the ro-ro ferry is an enormous vessel imported from China while the contractors are planning on getting boats from Greece. This 150 crore project was funded jointly by the Mumbai Port Trust and the state-government run Mumbai Maritime Board.According to experts, the RoRos will extend Mumbai's water transport substantially. So far, only two-wheelers could be transported between Manori and Marwe and Versova and Madh across the ferry. Now, it can carry close to 80 cars and 320 passengers on either side with three vessels that can take 10 trips each per day. This would not just bring down the road congestion and pollution but also help citizens save money.
The RoRo water transport is all set to take off in the month of may 2018 and guess what? All of this in just rupees 620!
Now sale across Mumbai's west coast without the hassle of bustling traffic.
